Fiji runs a concentrated set of systems that a great many people depend on: telecommunications and mobile money platforms, core banking, utilities billing and government services. In a market this size, one platform often serves a whole sector — which makes an outage a national inconvenience rather than a company problem.

The constraint is senior database depth. There are capable infrastructure teams in Fiji, and far fewer people who have spent a career inside SQL Server or Oracle internals. For day-to-day operation that is usually fine. For a corrupt database, a cluster that will not fail over, or a migration that must not lose a transaction, it is the difference between an afternoon and a week.
